First trip abroad

I drove into Switzerland yesterday, armed with a thick file of documents to justify my trip, and, ultimately, my existence. No one was remotely interested at the border.

To think: I’d even debated with myself at some length about whether to wear my mask IN the car or not as I didn’t want to breathe on or be breathed upon by man with machine gun asking for papers. Anyway, all a bit of a damp squib.

The rest of my trip was fairly uneventful until after lunch (lunch! made by someone-who-was-not-me!) And then an extraordinary thing happened.

I’d gone to see a friend in Nyon (outside Geneva) and we strolled down to the lake together. We were sitting on a bench chatting when out of the blue TWO sparrows flew down and PERCHED ON MY HEAD. Was that not highly weird? Raise your hands anyone else this has happened to?

Then I drove home. Again, zero interest at customs. This is when you begin to wonder if the whole thing (being locked down, or confined, or isolated or whatever it was that I’ve just spent the past three months being) is not some massive sick joke and you are the only person in the world not party to it . Know the feeling?
